What we know as the modern electronic cigarette hasn't always been what it is now. We can consider it as one of the biggest breakthroughs in the history of tobacco, Yes. And even though you might think vaping is something new you’d be surprised that it actually has been around longer than you think.
Let’s go ahead and take a look at the fascinating story of how the evolution of vaping and cigarettes came to be.
The Birth of Vaping
The concept of vaporizing (the forefather of vaping) actually dates back to the 5th century B.C. According to Greek historians, the concept of vaporizing actually came from vaping cannabis.
The culture widely dictates the vapor-bath (a very high form of vaporized THC) to be consumed in rituals.
The same age-old concept of heating the element to produce vapor instead of burning led to the creation of Hookah in the 15th century. To date, we see that it was only during the 20th century that we saw any progression in the innovation of vapor to vaping.
Modern Vaping & E-cigarettes
Vaping like everything else has gone through a lot of changes. Along with the changing times we saw how it evolved according to the continued increase and demand coming from its users.
Now Vaping hasn’t always been as simple. Looking back at how the first generation vape/e-cigarettes were made, we can see a huge difference. Now, unknown to many, officially, the inventor of the e-cigarette, was Hon Lik in the year 2003, but the actual concept is much older.
Joseph Robinson back in 1927 filed a patent described as "electric vaporizer holding medicinal compounds which are electrically (or otherwise) heated to produce vapors for inhalation". Now, the invention wasn't even close to any form of an electronic cigarette, vape devices or any similar vaporizer, but it was known as the first mention of a system that later was used to evolve into vaping as we know it today.
Evolution to now
Today, out of all the vape systems out there, the most known form of any vape system is the e-cigarette, but did you know that there are so many devices available in different forms: hookah, sticks, mod kits, pens, desktop vaporizers, all known as Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS).
For vaping, many use e-liquid based on nicotine, with a mix of flavorings, vegetable glycerin, and others. The process is simple: liquid gets heated, and the result of this process is aerosol, which is inhaled by the user.
Nicotine-based vape products are not the only one that can be induced by vaping. Some people actually use essential oils (lavender, peppermint) or hemp oil, while others use marijuana or cbd oil, to treat some health condition or just for pleasure.
And out of all of these comes the different generation of products that’s known as mod kits and APV’s (Advanced Personal Vaporizers), which apart from having different components from each other also performs quite differently.
How the performances of these devices evolved from the early adoption period (2003’s) to present showcases how determined the vaping industry is to reach as many customers as possible.
These new types of devices are created for people who are known to be interested in customizing and personalizing their vaping experience. Vaporizers, unlike standard vape pens, have advanced features that are not available with other products, such as digital displays, temperature setting control, higher wattage, and battery-life.
Now granted that these types of products of course are the most expensive vaping products on the market and can use different types of e-liquid, from ones derived from tobacco to the vaping cbd oil.
The Future of Vape Pens
Today, there are hundreds of vape pen manufacturers and each has a customized vape pen product. But it doesn’t stop there.
Upcoming features of modern vape pens include Bluetooth and voice activation. We can go as far as to say that in the future, if you lose the vape pen you might easily find it and recognize which unit you have even while out at a party.
We can also definitely see more customized mods being built. It could mean having an option to add various new features like adding a flashlight to your vape pens. Today there is already a handful of vaping shops that customize and upgrade the designs of vapes to make them look fancier and personalized according to the needs of the user.
Also, manufacturers of vaping technologies continue to find a way to make their products as enticing and advanced as possible. Vape pens will definitely become even smaller, safer, and might even contain user-friendly features to make sure that the public and the government will be more accepting of them.
Now, we actually see new vape coil designs that is consistently being released each year. While worldwide we see many DIY enthusiasts that chime in with aims to perfect the next generation of vape pens.
The popularity of Vape pens continues to soar. And like cigarettes before, users of today consider vape pens as part of their lifestyle.
And with the continuous move to a healthier lifestyle -- we can definitely say that traditional tobacco cigarettes are losing market share.
We can definitely say that vape pens and e-cigarettes are continuously on the rise. One big push comes from the younger generation of today (Gen Z) as they see it as a highly attractive replacement especially for people who want to stop their addictive cigarette smoking habits.
